1. Six Flags Magic Mountain

Santa Clarita is home to one of the most iconic theme parks in the world. Six Flags Magic Mountain holds the record for the most roller coasters of any theme park on the planet — with 20 coasters including Twisted Colossus, West Coast Racers, and the legendary Superman: Escape from Krypton. Annual passes make it a great option for families who live nearby. During October, Fright Fest transforms the park into one of Southern California’s premier Halloween experiences.

2. Hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains and Placerita Canyon

Santa Clarita is surrounded by open space and natural preserves. Top hiking spots include:

  • Placerita Canyon Nature Center — family-friendly trails, a seasonal waterfall, and a nature center with live animals
  • Towsley Canyon (Ed Davis Park) — moderate hikes through chaparral with canyon views
  • Vasquez Rocks Natural Area — iconic geological formations just east of SCV, featured in countless movies and TV shows
  • The Valencia paseo trail system — 25+ miles of walking and biking paths connecting neighborhoods, parks, and shopping

3. Castaic Lake

One of LA County’s best-kept secrets, Castaic Lake offers boating, fishing, swimming, and camping just minutes from Santa Clarita’s northern communities. The upper lake is popular for waterskiing and wakeboarding; the lower lagoon is perfect for swimming and picnics. On a hot Santa Clarita summer day, there’s no better place to be.

4. Old Town Newhall

Newhall’s revitalized downtown district is a walkable stretch of restaurants, bars, boutiques, and live music venues. The weekly Farmer’s Market (Thursdays) draws local vendors selling fresh produce, baked goods, and artisan products. It’s the most urban, eclectic part of Santa Clarita — a nice contrast to the master-planned feel of Valencia.

5. Bridgeport Lake in Valencia

Bridgeport is a picturesque man-made lake in the heart of Valencia, surrounded by waterfront restaurants, a park, and a walking path. Paddle boarding and kayaking are popular on weekends. The Valencia Wine Company overlooks the lake and is one of the best spots for a date night in all of SCV.

6. Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society and Heritage Junction

For history buffs, Heritage Junction Historic Park in Newhall preserves original buildings from SCV’s past, including an 1887 railroad depot and a Victorian-era house. Free admission and a great family outing on a mild day.

7. Golf

Santa Clarita has several excellent golf courses including:

  • TPC Valencia — a championship-level course hosting professional tournaments
  • Vista Valencia Golf Course — a more accessible public course
  • Robinson Ranch Golf Club — set in the hills with stunning views

8. Local Dining and Entertainment

Beyond the restaurants we covered in our Valencia dining guide, SCV has a growing food and entertainment scene. Valencia Town Center anchors the retail and dining experience, while areas like Stevenson Ranch and Newhall offer more intimate neighborhood options. The AMC 16 at Valencia Town Center is the go-to spot for movies.

9. Santa Clarita Marathon

Held each November, the Santa Clarita Marathon is one of the most popular road races in Southern California. The course winds through Valencia’s paseo system and surrounding neighborhoods. Runners of all levels participate — from the full marathon to 5K distances.

10. The Painted Turtle Family Camp at Castaic Lake

A unique SCV gem — a camp for children with serious illnesses and their families, open to volunteers and community involvement. A reminder of the community spirit that defines Santa Clarita.

Living in a Place You Love

One of the things residents consistently say about Santa Clarita is that it feels like home. The community is engaged, the amenities are excellent, and the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains and open space gives SCV a quality of life that’s hard to find this close to LA.

If you’re thinking about making Santa Clarita your home, I’d love to help you find the right neighborhood and the right property.
